Dr Asim Hussain admitted in Karachi hospital, suffers from depression: medical board

KARACHI – Former petroleum minister Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Dr Asim Hussain on Tuesday has been admitted in Jinnah Hospital after medical board stated that the terror accused is suffering from depression and psychological problems.

Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Hussain was shifted to the hospital today for a medical checkup.

The board diagnosed the alleged patient with neurological issues.

The hospital administration stated that the report of the accused would be forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) which is pursuing a corruption reference against him.

On the other hand, Sindh government has appointed Hyderabad’s senior lawyer, Ayaz Tunio as special public prosecutor in terror case against Dr Asim Hussain in an anti-terrorism court (ATC).

Tunio has replaced Nisar Durrani, the now Sindh Advocate General. A notification of appointment of fresh prosecutor will be issued today.

Besides, NAB’s corruption reference, Dr Asim Hussain is facing terror charges in a case registered in North Nazimabad Police Station.

He was apprehended by Rangers in 2014 and a 90-day remand was acquired from a local court. Later in November 2014, a case was registered which alleged Dr Hussain of providing medical treatment to target killers and militants in his hospital in Karachi.

He allegedly provided safe havens to terrorists in name of ‘medical checkup’.

Earlier, report of Dr Hussain’s MRI test was issued by Jinnah Hospital. The report termed Dr Hussain ‘fit’ with no pain in the back as opposed to his complaint in law enforcement agency s custody.
